My four piece artwork submitted for my year 12 HSC Visual Arts Major Body of Work titled: Transfigured.
Transfigure means to transform into something more beautiful.
We all see beauty different and all have our perceived ideas of what beauty means.
But unfortunately we live in a society where outer beauty reflects heavily on our individual lives. Visual beauty entails success, happiness -‘Beautiful people’ get far in life.
But society is shrouded in this darkness -clouded by what it doesn’t understand. This is shown through the repetitive use of a symbol of darkness hung from the flesh of each piece.
A majority of society likes to play follow the leader or Simon says, forcing themselves to be part of trends they may not agree with but follow just to feel apart of something -to feel as if they belong.
But when you become the sheep, you feel heavier, you’re no longer an individual, instead you are weighed down by the same corrupting darkness holding down the rest of society.
Try to steer clear of societies impending doom. Dig deeper and be your own person. Because if you’re not what society deems beautiful you’ll be dragged down with no way out.
Beauty runs deeper than skin. It flows in the words we speak, the way we behave, the way in which we treat others -it’s in our presence and in our bones.
This beauty is pure and with this sense of purity, you transform into something greater -something more beautiful.
